Abstract

During 2009, Bolivia has been characterised by a number of important political events: the constitutional referendum, the approval of the new constitution, the formulation of a new electoral law, including the renewed registration of all voters, and, at the end of the year, general elections. Throughout these events, the position of the governing party, MAS, has grown stronger until it found itself in a hegemonic position at the end of the year. At the same time, the extra-institutional political strategies that dominated political life during previous years, have become much less frequent during 2009.
