Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyze different contributions of Latin American art criticism on the subject of the popular in the era of globalization. We see now a rethinking of artistic theory in accordance with the advent of postmodernism, whose impact, as in other fields of culture, is undeniable. Consequently, we have been interested to compare views on key issues of the popular (definition of popular, the role of crafts and indigenous culture, approaches to a Latin American theory of art, the significance of key concepts such as the globalization and hybridization). The result shows a different critical scene, no uniform, as is also seen in the studies of anthropologists what we have considered in order to achieve an appropriate contextualization.
