Abstract

The objective of this essay is to focus on the importance of the relation between voice and un- derstanding on actoral training. I will begin by referring to the biological networks that support both concepts. Then, I will make a diagnosis about the high levels of functional illiteracy in Chile and its consequences in the field of vocal pedagogy. Based on this diagnosis, I will reflect on the relevance of the concept of critical thinking, in terms of vocal practices in theatre training. In addition, I will present the pedagogical experience I have developed in recent years, based on the ideas of the Brazilian pedagogue Paulo Freire.
