Abstract

At the national scale, the territorial distribution of Catholic shrines in Mexico extends across the entire country. Nevertheless. some of these shrines, especially those associated with miraculous events, are distinguished for their spiritual magnetism and unique character. Geographical research on this topic is rather limited in Mexico, compared to the relatively abundant academic work done by anthropologists on sacred places located in areas with strong indigenous populations. Geographical research can lead to the disclosure of devotional manifestations in particular regional milieus and the revelation of new types of catholic shrines, by considering the history of their founding. This would represent a new research platform, which would be useful in examining the devotional richness of the Mexican people.
