Abstract

The Inter-American system for the protection of Human Rights includes its institutionality, recognition of rights, and bodies in charge of this task that began to develop in the region in the last half of the 20th century when it dealt with freedom of conscience and religion. In this article are addressed various manifestations regarding the exercise of religious freedom in Chile from the various organs of the Inter-American human rights system. Through this experience, the main regional transformations on this fundamental right are reflected showing substantive changes that consist on confrontation between religious tradition and, a new and growing non-religious and, in many cases, irreligious culture.
