Main Article Content

Samuel Anderson de Oliveira Lima

Abstract

The poetic work of Góngora transcends time and place, since his first verses in the sixteenth century. His fame crosses the ocean and, loaded with all the spirits of Poetics, arrives in the Americas to stay. This work proposes a revision of the concept of the term “gongorism”, by giving special attention to its development among the critics from the Spanish America and Brazil, in order to identify which aspects were deliberated for the construction of what is gongorism in the literature of the New World in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
