Abstract

In this paper I try to clarify a particular class of Chilean poetry anthologies published in Spanish between 1924 and 1935; more specifically, those that include Pablo Neruda alongside other Chilean poets. It was during this period that the work of the main representatives of the so-called Chilean "New Poetry" was collected and published for the first time, and Neruda's poetry in particular appears regularly and stands out in importance. Oftentimes, the poet himself intervened directly in the selection of his own poems, favoring by-and-large to publish his writing in progress. Within a period of twelve years, Neruda acquired extraordinary prestige, first in Chile, then in Spanish America, and finally in the entire Spanish speaking world.
